{se·man·tics n. The meaning or the interpretation of a word, sentence, or other language form}
"Semantics" isn't necessarily a bad word, as many disagreements hinge on how we define our terms.
Here, we'll talk semantics, movies, technology, politics, and just about everything else under the sun.
Is he saying that because the victim was a little black boy, that's why nothing happened? And if the boy was a dog, then there would've been a conviction? That distinction really doesn't need to be made.
While race is at times a factor, I don't know how this particular case played out, so I don't know why the men weren't convicted. Perhaps the prosecutor wasn't up to snuff, and thats why "nothing happened". Maybe the men really aren't guilty......I don't know.
But I don't think its "fair", if you will, to compare the two cases. I think its a tacky comment, and it does nothing to bring closure to this little boy's demise.

I hadn't heard of this case, but both crimes are heinous. I think that comment is slight and misplaced.
Slight? Howso?
