MUSIC: Charlie Wilson - underrated

Pimpalicious posture aside, this Gap Band veteran has got CRAZY vocal skills.

I mean, I'm waiting for the day that we find out he's really Johnny Gill's long-lost daddy.

This is a great example of what I tell people who claim all you need is talent. I'm sorry, but that's some bullshit.

On one side is talent and drive, but on the other side there must be opportunity and interest. To be perfectly honest, I'm not precisely sure WHICH Mr. Wilson is lacking, but it damn-sure ain't talent. The man can sing his and YOUR ass off!

Shortly after she accepted my hand in couple-dom, my girlfriend and I went to a Tom Joyner Morning Show "Sky Show" (a mini-concert, basically). Performing, as they so often do, was the Gap Band, among others.

Now, anybody in-the-know knows that plenty of folks can throw down in the studio, but only a select few can, not only sing well LIVE, but also sing multiple songs in a row, basically carrying the whole show. WELL.

That's Charlie Wilson.

I was pleased to see that Mr. Wilson is flexing his creative muscle on a new album or something, but it's kinda sad to see that the songs are so blah. Once again, he sings the sheeyit out of'em, but m'man needs somebody to write him a hit or three so he can get the love he truly deserves.

He'd better hurry up, too, because I hear that Lionel Richie is comin' back. Soon. (Hopefully, he'll wait until he can lock his daughter in an all-you-can-eat joint, so she'll abandon her very convincing Callista Flockhart impression.)
