Marvel scoops up "Terminator 3" director

source: AOL News (by way of my girlfriend)
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Terminator 3" director Jonathan Mostow will write and direct "Sub-Mariner," an adaptation of one of Marvel Comics' oldest superheroes.

In the comic, the Sub-Mariner's real name is Prince Namor, a half-man/half-amphibian from the underwater kingdom of Atlantis. An anti-hero, he frequently finds himself helping the human race as much as he fights it when humans pollute the waters.

[. . .]

Marvel Studios and producer Kevin Misher had long been interested in Mostow, but he was never available. When Mostow's schedule opened up, he called to check whether the character was up for grabs. When he was, Mostow developed a take that found the core of the character, something that had eluded the producers.
I just hope they don't make him look TOO MUCH like a half-naked, buffed-up, pissed-off Mr. Spock.

I heard about this just about a 1/2 hour ago. Pretty nifty. I've always been a fan of Prince Namor! Imperious REX!!!!

Hopefully they stay true to the origin like Spider-man! They do that, true comicbook aficianado's like ourselves will appreciate the effort and give Marvel's first mutant the star quality treatment.

Mostow repped for T-3 though. I wasn't a fan of that movie being made without Cameron at the helm, but I ended up being impressed. Now, who to play the great prince? Any suggestions West?

A lot of folks thought the filmmakers didn't stay true to Spidey's origin, considering the change from mechanical to organic web-shooters.

I liked the end, and it wasn't such a bad film, but it didn't meet my expectations. I thought that, if they were gonna do another sequel, they had a product in-mind that would surpass the previous installments.

No such luck.

For the answer to that question, check out my next post.

Oooh, that's right! I overlooked those doggone organic webshooters. Not a bad addition if you ask me, but kind of looked forward to seeing the cartridges run out of webbing at just the moment he's in mid-swing!

FYI - The organic webbing didn't bother me. Spidey has organic webbing in the comics now.

As for Namor, I’m seriously looking forward to this. He is a great character with so many facets and so much potential. I'm not sure they can pull off the fact that he flies thanks to wings on his feet. It might be a little to unbelievable for the general audience.

Besides being a bit disgusting, the organic webbing didn't bother me all that much, either.

When is organic shooters were clogged, they looked like he'd caught an upskirt from Mary Jane or something.

But yeah, I feel you on the winged feet.

That's nasty.

As Namors self proclaimed biggest fan I'm stoked.
