I just read an IMAX theater website blurb about Superman Returns that got me thinking. Obviously no good can come of that.
Short n sweet: It said Superman returns after being gone for "several years." I think he was about 30-years-old in the first Super-flick. Even if we really reach and assume that all the Super-sequels occurred within a year of the first Reeve flick, wouldn't an absence of several years mean that he'd be about 37-years-old?
Being Kryptonian, they can explain that away, easily enough, if they really wanted to. But shouldn't Lois, Jimmy, and even Lex be about seven years older, too?
From what I've seen (which ain't much), they're not.
Anybody got any spoiler-free theories/explanations for this?

Yeah, that's easily done fam. Clark's age in Superman: The Movie and Superman II ( I don't count the third and fouth films ) was about 25. If you go back and look at the the first movie, he spent about 5 to 6 six years in the Fortress undergoing his tutelage from Jor-El. If he graduated at 18 and left home at 19 this would give us our time frame. It's really hard to give a definite age since the first two movies never really establish a timeline after he graduated from Smallville High. However, I will put money down that he most definitely was not 30 in the original two films.
Now as to the beginning of Superman returns, Bryan Singer has said that Kal-El was only away from Earth for about two years. There is no age differing between Kryptonians and Humans: they age at the same rate as us. The only difference between them and us is molecular structure. This has been established in several of the Superman comic titles. So his age upon returning at the beginning of the film should be no older than 31.

They DID define Supes' age, somewhat.
According to someone else, after Jor-El spoke with him, he said, I believe, "I am Jor-El. I'm your father. By now you will have reached your eighteenth year..."
I think Jor-El said that, by the time he was done with their little conversation, that 8 Earth years (or so) will have passed. As you saw, Clark had aged quite a bit, by then. That'd put him at 26-years-old.
And, again, that blurb I read said that Supes had been away for "several" years, which puts him over 30, now... and certainly puts Lois over 30.
And Bosworth barely looks 20, as it is.
Anyway, though, as someone else pointed out, if we're gonna be sticklers for established continuity (in the movies) then this one will have to take place in the 1980's. :-D
Damn, I didn't even think about it taking place in the 80's. Good catch. Still, I think it's going to be interesting to watch Wednesday night. I would check out the Midnight showing on Tuesday, but I gotta hot date!!!
